Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Alamance County Historical Museum was the birth-place of Edwin Michael Holt III, a pioneer in the southern textile industry.

Upstairs there are three rooms:
One period bedroom and two rooms used for permanent artifact collections and exhibits including antique clothing, quilts and military artifacts.

Just minutes from I-85, Elon, Burlington, Greensboro, and Chapel Hill, the museum offers guided tours and a warm, charming Victorian setting for private functions.

Examples of the “Alamance Plaid”, the first commercially-woven colored cotton fabrics manufactured in the American South, are also displayed.

The oldest section of the house, constructed in 1790, consisted of a two-room structiure identified in the vernacular of its time as a “dog-trot”.

Come celebrate the lifestyle of early Alamance County. The plantation complex includes a restored granary, corn crib and carriage house, as well as a 19th century summer kitchen.

In 1800, the modest home was overbuilt to create a two-story dwelling typical of 19th century Piedmont houses. Victorian additions of 1875 contribute to its Italianate Revival character.

The grounds include a lovely garden of period roses, a pergola, and the Holt family cemetery with graves dating to the 1700s. Stroll our lovely grounds to experience a vanished lifestyle...

The museum consists of three period rooms on the first floor– parlor, music room, dining room– with mid-nineteenth century furnishings and accessories.

The charm of Victorian life.
